As part of the commemoration of the First World War, a 6th year primary class and their teacher (Pascale Denis), at Calevoet School in Uccle, have created a book about a local Resistance fighter, Edith Cavell.
Gathering information through several channels - internet, libraries, interviews with people connected to this era and these events - formed the starting point for this project.Five groups of children provided five visions of this heroine of the Great War.The writing and drawings were inspired by a cartoon, "Gabrielle Petit, A Forgotten Story", published in the Jacadit collection, "l'objet fantastique" (The Fantastic Object) (Ixelles School of Arts.) The graphics technique used is that of drawing on tracing paper and using walnut nut husks for the sepia rendering.
